Catching the Impossible DVDS

You might look at the image above and think you don’t want to read a blog post about fishing (or you might not want to read my ramblings whatever they are!) but this post isn’t just about fishing, it’s also about natural history and what you might be lucky enough to see when you go outside if you simply open your eyes. The image above is off the DVDs for the Catching the Impossible series created by wildlife filmmaker Hugh Miles, and they are a must watch for anyone who like’s fishing programs, but they are also highly recommend for anyone who likes wildlife programs as they capture some of the most beautiful scenes of British wildlife that you are ever likely to see, especially when it comes to freshwater rivers and lakes.

Hugh Miles is a highly successful filmmaker, whose career started of by working on the David Attenborough’s renowned natural history series for the BBC, Life on Earth and it is working on natural history programs that has won Hugh Miles numerous awards for his photography and filmmaking. During this time he was the first man to film a Snow Leopard hunting among many other things, but his work hasn’t just been to film exotic wild animals. Hugh is a keen angler, and that mixed his love of the natural world and ability as a filmmaker has led to him creating, in his own spare time some of the greatest angling programs ever created.

The first, and perhaps the most highly regarded angling program to ever be shown on television was A Passion for Angling which Hugh created with two of Britain most famous fishermen, Bob James and Chris Yates (who also happens to be a fantastic writer!) and it really is a program devoted to the pleasure of not only fishing, but also the pleasure of the being surround by a beautiful world and Hugh’s camera work leads to some beautiful scenes. Now over the last five years Hugh has worked on creating Catching the Impossible, a series which has so far only be released on DVD but it is already been called “the greatest angling show ever made” and that is mostly due to Hugh ground breaking work when it comes to filming British freshwater fish in their natural environments, under the surface of the water.

It is Hugh Miles work on A Passion for Angling and Catching the Impossible that has made me truly aware of the world around me in the last few years, to such an extent that when I’m out and about I always want to have a camera with me to capture what I see. There are many amazing sights and amazing creatures that share this world with us, but you don’t need to travel to Africa, or the Amazon rainforest to see something beautiful, just look out your window and you might find it will surprise you.
